Ways to Fix Fatal Errors When Installing HP Printer Drivers in Windows 10

Printer Offline Fix

Common Printer Issues

When you are trying to connect the HP printer to your Windows PC initially or after your installation process, the HP driver has to be started to get the printing process underway. As in the case of hardware peripheral devices, HP printers also need you to install proper devices first. In certain cases, drivers may install by themselves and in others, you may have to download the right printer driver and install them manually. In either case, the installation process of an HP printer is not the easiest and may involve errors. Below is a discussion on the ways to fix the errors through printer offline fix while installing HP printer drivers in Windows 10.

Solution 1: Disable HP Smart Install

HP Smart Install refers to software that comes with HP Printers. Even though this is not supported on HP, it creates problems with driver installation. Therefore, if you are seeing a fatal error during the installation of  HP Printer driver, uninstalling the HP Smart Install will correct this issue. You may follow these steps to get it removed.

  1. Visit Setup and then Service on your printer screen.
  2. Select HP Smart Install and Check if the feature is disabled.
  3. Now go ahead and install the driver to see if disabling the feature will solve the error.

Solution 2: Run Windows Troubleshooter

Windows 10 is fitted with a built-in troubleshooter which helps users to solve any existing problems by themselves. It is capable of finding and fixing several issues in your PC. Try and troubleshoot the printer by following these instructions:

  1. Select Settings. Choose Update and Security.
  2. Bring down the Troubleshoot tab. Check “Get up and running” section and pick“ Printer.” Select Run the Troubleshooter button to proceed.

Troubleshoot Printers

  1. The troubleshooter conducts the diagnostic check for all the common problems that could impact printer functions like Spooler printer feature.
  2. In case it is found, it will request you to allow the recommended settings to solve the issue.

In case the issue exists, cancel the troubleshooter and follow the further steps given below.

Solution 3: Disconnect and Reconnect the Printer

You may try to reconnect the printer after disconnecting it. This may fix the issue in some cases.

Firstly, turn off the printer and disconnect the computer from it. Wait for a few seconds and reconnect the printer. Use a different USB port this time. It is also possible the USB ports cause errors.

Solution 4: Remove the Printer from Control Panel

Another possible solution is to remove any printer mentioned from the Control Panel. You will also have to remove drivers from the printers that could be installed on your system. For this, you may follow the following steps.

  1. Select Control Panel. You can reach it by simply typing Control Panel in the Cortana/search bar and choosing it from the results.
  2. Below Hardware and Sound, Select View devices and printers.
  3. Choose one among the listed HP Printer and select Remove device.
  4. Restart the computer after removing it.
  5. Press Windows Key + R, and enter the following command and then click OK: Printui.exe /s
  6. It opens the Printer Server Properties window. Pick the Drivers tab and select one of the mentioned HP printers. After this hit on the Remove button.
  7. Pick Remove driver and driver package choices and then hit OK.

Confirm by installing the driver one more time. If it still exists, restart the computer and try once more.

Solution 5: Stop Print Spooler Service

One more way to fix the fatal error when installing the HP printer is by stopping the use of Print Spooler service out of the services window. Once you have done this, you may delete the files in the Spool folder. Follow the below steps to finish this process.

  1. Choose the Run dialogue box by clicking Windows key + R simultaneously. Then type “services.msc” and click the enter button.
  2. This opens the Services window. Find the Printer spooler from this list.
  3. Right-click the Printer spooler option and pick Stop. Exit the Services window.

Printer Spooler Properties

  1. Go back to the Run dialogue box and type Spool before hitting Enter.
  2. Delete all contents of this folder. In case the administrator permission is asked for, select OK.
  3. Select the Services window again through the Run dialogue box and open Print spooler service. Right-click on this and then click on Start.

Try to run the driver installation package again and check for improved performance.

Printers are unavoidable components of any office. Without them, several purposes would be left unfulfilled. In case your HP Printer is showing a fatal error or troubleshooting printer issues while installing the driver, there are several solutions like given above. Use these instructions well and get your printer running smoothly.
